A surreal portrait about how light often enters our lives exactly where we feel most protected, until that protection cracks. A split helmet, butterflies and warm golden light form a contemplative story about healing and inner awakening.
“There is a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”
The work is inspired by words often attributed to Leonard Cohen and reflects on the illusion of protection we build around ourselves.
The cracked helmet is the protection we create through identity, control and external structures: it is meant to keep us safe but can also isolate us. When the helmet cracks, warm golden light flows in, and vulnerability turns out not to be weakness but discovery.
The butterflies symbolise transformation and renewal: real change begins not when we are fully protected, but when we let something genuine reach us.
What do you use as protection, and what will happen when it finally cracks?
